About state licences. Where we matched a business below to a current licence in the TDLR public file, the licence number is shown on that business's own page. This page does not show it. Where it is absent we simply could not make a match — licences are often held under a parent company, a franchise owner or an individual's name. It is a statement about our matching, not a finding about the business, and it should not be read as one. Always confirm a licence with the TDLR directly before you hire.

Use these on the phone and when you are reading a written quote. They are the points that most often separate a fair electrician quote from an expensive one.
Keil Electric, Austin, at 5.0 on Google across 148 reviews as of 2 October 2026. Read the review count next to the stars before you decide: a 4.9 earned over several hundred jobs is a stronger signal than a 5.0 from a dozen, because it has been tested on more houses, more weather and more awkward jobs than a short record can show.
Three, from businesses at a similar size. Two gives you no way to tell which one is the outlier, and more than four tends to produce quotes you never properly read. Ask all three for the same scope in writing on the same day, so the comparison is between prices and not between three different versions of the job.
Almost always because they are not quoting the same work. One has included preparation, materials, permits or clean-up that the other has left out, and the gap shows up later as an extra. Confirm the licence number and that the work will be permitted and inspected. Ask every electrician to break the quote into labour, materials and anything conditional, and the difference usually explains itself.
Only once you know why it is the cheapest. A lower price can be a leaner business with lower overheads, which is fine, or it can be thinner materials, no permit, no insurance and no warranty, which is not. Ask the cheapest quote what it leaves out that the others include, and ask for proof of insurance either way.
Photos of the problem, the age of whatever is failing if you know it, your rough budget range and when you need the work done. A electrician can give you a far more accurate figure over the phone from photos than from a description, and it saves a visit that turns out to be for a job they do not take on.
